“……Even today it is rare to see the conductor’s baton in a female hand, a great pity if this performance was anything to go by. Young’s movements were fluid and almost balletic and she lead with confidence and panache”

Russian Art and Culture

Rachael is schooled in the Russian system of conducting. This system came out of the Old German conducting tradition and was developed by the leading Russian music academies in the late 19th century and into the first half of the 20th century. It demands a level of technical stability that is the foundation for emotionally, intellectually and psychologically charged performances. The aim of every performance led by Rachael is to provide an interpretation developed within a rich aesthetic culture that brings to life the philosophical and intellectual elements and the psychological emotional drama within the music.

“Ms Young compels attention with her exacting baton and confident manner…lending considerable spark to the performance”
Mary E. Hutton, Music in Cincinnati

“It was a real pleasure and uplifting experience to work with Ms Young”
Lara Melda, BBC Young Musician 2010
